We crossed the continental divide today! Yay! The main summit was before the continental divide—Lost Trail Pass, 7014 ft. Right around there we briefly crossed back into Idaho. It was a slightly confusing little state / mountain pass area. The next “pass” was (thankfully) just a little further up—Chief Joseph Pass, 7241 ft.
We hear that there’s supposed to be a big rowdy motorcycle festival in Jackson for the 4th. It sounds sort of fun, although all the other cyclists that told us about it are avoiding it like the plague. We ran into the father-son tandem team Dan and Ryan a few times today. They’re traveling with parents/grandparents, so we’re a little jealous of their sag wagon with all of these passes…
Oh, the other cool thing that happened today was sort of random. We went around a corner earlier, and all of the sudden there was an entire herd of goats just hanging out by the side of the road. Cars (and bicycles) pulled off to take pictures. The baby goats were really cute. They were playing on the cliffs, going up and down.
Beautiful Montana
Goats!
More goats!
Baby goats on the cliffs... (they sort of blend in, so you have to look closely)
Summit number 1 for the day
Crossing into Montana again
