Day 5

Mileage: 62.5
From: Eugene, OR
To: McKenzie Bridge, OR

Today was a long day! We rode a lot. Most of it was uphill, but very gradual. We stopped for good dessert at a little restaurant. Lauren and dad had pie ala mode, and I had bread pudding. I don’t usually order something like bread pudding, but I must have been craving it for some reason.

Later, we met a local older man on his bike who rode with us and showed us where our campsite was. He said he was a retired professor from Oklahoma. He was talking about how great it was to live in Oregon and why he had chosen to live there when some crazy guy steps out from the woods on the other side of the road with a big rock, yelling about moving the rock and Jesus’ tomb being empty. The man we were riding with said, to put it nicely, Oregon was a great place to live, but had poor mental health institutions.

Oh, and Lauren had our first flat tire! It was a momentous occasion (not really). She hit a big rock and got a snake bite. She claims the rock jumped out of nowhere.
